Yonex Sunrise - India Open Super Series 2011

After the World Badminton Championship and the Commonwealth Games, Siri Fort Indoor Complex is all set to add another feather to its cap when it hosts the first Super Series in India. The Yonex Sunrise India Open Series, commencing April 26 to May 1, 2011 will have nearly 220 players coming from sixteen countries participating. The $200,000 event will have the top 32 players in both men's and women's singles and doubles to be telecast live in India and in about two countries abroad.
The Super Series is a series of twelve tournaments with high standard of organization and presentation held throughout Europe and Asia in one calendar year. At the end of the year, a Super Series Final is held at one fixed venue which comprises only the top eight players of the world according to their Super Series ranking. So players accumulate points in these Super Series to make it to the Super Series Final.
The BWF introduced the BWF World Super Series format to showcase badminton at a higher level of presentation and competitiveness, to increase television coverage for the sport and to increase the star quality and popularity of the top players in the world through increased television coverage.
Yonex-Sunrise, which sponsored India Open since 2008, will continue to carry its role forward of being the title and official equipment sponsors' for this event also. For the 2011-2013 Super Series season, OSIM, a global leader in branded well being and healthy lifestyle products, is the Global Series Title Sponsor.
India's challenge in this tournament will be spearheaded by the World Number 4 Saina Nehwal along with Commonwealth Games Gold Medalists Jwala Gutta and Ashwani Ponnappa. P.Kashyap, another Commonwealth Games medalist will spearhead the men's challenge.
During the Press Conference, OSIM International announced their title sponsorship of The Badminton World Federation's BWF World Super Series on December 5 2010 at Shanghai, which will now be known as OSIM BWF World Super Series.
The OSIM BWF World Series is an international platform with opportunities for branding on a global scale, in line with OSIM's business objectives and expansion. The popularity of badminton, especially in OSIM key markets like China, whose shuttlers dominate the sport, bodes well for exposure of the OSIM brand in terms of TV viewership and active interest in the sport.
The three-year deal, beginning 2011, will include all thirteen events in the OSIM BWF World Super Series calendar, including the OSIM BWF World Super Series Finals. Out of twelve Super Series events, five have been selected as Premier Series events, with the Korea Open offering US Dollars 1.2 million prize money, the highest ever for a badminton tournament.
